Course Details
Join me for a gentle day of hand stitching and discover all about the different methods of Appliqué. This decorative technique involves cutting out shapes of fabric and attaching them to a background, to form a picture or design. There are many different ways of doing this, including bonded, reverse and trapped appliqué, all of which we will cover in this experimental day. Not only will we look at the different methods of cutting out and attaching fabric, we will also consider the fabrics themselves, including layering up and using unusual materials such as wall paper, net and trapping threads or sequins. There are so many fun techniques to try out! In addition, you will learn how to use different hand stitches such as blanket stitch, seed stitch, french knots and couching to create a variety of effects. Suitable for all levels of experience, from complete beginners to those who would like to refresh their skills. You will make a beautiful sample piece showcasing various methods of appliqué and come away with many exciting ideas for future projects.
