Machine Embroidery Experimental Appliqué

Course Details

Join me for this fun workshop to practice the art of machine embroidered appliqué. Traditionally, appliqué means cutting out shapes from fabric and attaching them to a background, to form a picture or design. However, with machine embroidery, you can be a lot "freer" with the technique, by bonding shapes onto fabric and then stitching across, or over them to get all sorts of interesting and contemporary effects. In this workshop, we will focus on leaf and floral shapes and look at how you can cut out quite abstract shapes and use them as a background to stitch over. We'll look at using opaque fabrics and the different effects you can get by overlapping shapes and how they can be layered together. We'll experiment with stitching in to paper and integrating this along with fabric, to create some stunning compositions. Suitable for those with some experience in machine embroidery, come and learn some new and interesting techniques to take your stitching to the next level! You will be taught in a small group (maximum five participants) with lots of one to one guidance and demonstrations and will make one or more lovely samples that could potentially be framed as small pictures. All materials are provided, but you will need to bring your sewing machine with embroidery foot attached and some threads to use.
