Machine Embroidery: Grids and Squares

Making grids and squares can be a really interesting way of experimenting with machine embroidery, giving you very contemporary looking, abstract designs, and is quick and simple to do. Join me for this unusual workshop to learn fun methods with a range of techniques, to produce some stunning samples. First we'll be working with dissolvable fabric, to trap pieces of felt and create geometric grids. We'll then look at ways of adding into these with additional embellishments, such as beads, poppers, or ribbons woven into the design. Next, I'll show you how to make a "faux drawn thread" piece, which is a fun and simple way of creating a machine embroidered version of this classic hand stitching technique. We'll also play with adding fabric paint and beads and I will give you lots of suggestions for framing and finishing to create some beautiful small pieces. Suitable for those with basic experience of machine embroidery, you will need to bring your own sewing machine (with embroidery foot attached) and some white thread, but all other materials are provided.
